Product Care

Candles and melts

Due to the nature of Soy Wax, you may occasionally find blemishes in the appearance of either your candles or your wax melts. These may include lumps, bumps, frosting, or the wax pulling away from the glass. All my products are hand made in North Queensland, so the constantly changing temperature does play a big part in the overall look of the product. While I do strive my best to make sure they are free of any imperfections, unfortunately when your working with a natural product, they sometimes do not want to play the game. Be it made clear though these imperfections have no effect on the way your candles/melts should burn or smell.

Another thing to be made aware of is that different fragrances have different strengths, I often find that citrus type fragrances tend to be more subtle, whereas woody or foody fragrances are often more powerful. If you’re after something stronger – you might like to give soy wax melts a go.

Why sometimes does your soy candle not smell as strong as some of the well known brands? Many of the big brands use a soy/paraffin blend. Paraffin is amazing at releasing fragrances, however it can create more smoke and soot than soy, and is also a byproduct of petroleum oil. For this reason, I prefer not to use it.

For those that live in Queensland or other places that have quite hot days, you may occasionally find “sweating” on top of your candle. This is caused by the temperature in which your candle is stored so it is always recommended to keep your candles/melts in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. In the case that your candle does “sweat”, please allow for the moisture to be absorbed back into the candle before lighting!

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Always burn on a stable, heat resistant surface in a draft free area.
  • The first burn is your most important burn, allow your wax pool to reach the edge of the jar during each burn, this could take anywhere from 4-5 hours to do so. You do this to get the most out of your candle and to avoid it tunnelling down and wasting the wax around the edges.
  • Always trim your wick before each burn to 5mm.
  • Never burn for longer than 5 hours at a time, and NEVER leave your candle unattended.
  • To avoid smoking when you put out your flame and ruining that beautiful aroma, it may be wise to get a candle snuffer to extinguish your flame.
  • Allow your candle to fully reset before relighting.
  • Stop burning your candle when 2cm of wax remains in the bottom. If you let your candle burn below this, you do run the risk of shattering the jar.
  • Make sure you store your candles in a cool dry place, away from direct sunlight.
